2010 autumn and spring drop bulls were available for inspection and selection at High Spa’s recent spring open day. The majority of the "older" bulls were High Spa 2011 joining bulls – fresh out of their respective herds and keen for new females. The spring bulls are an exciting young group and a good number of both the working age and yearling bulls will be going to, or are already getting accustomed to, new homes and herds.
Sadly, due to unprecedented demand for High Spa, high performing females there were none to offer this spring. High Spa expect to have some females available at their beef week open day early in 2012.
The industry information sessions this spring were keenly attended. Michael Pointer, Immediate Past CEO of CERTIFIED AUSTRALIAN ANGUS BEEF ™ presented “Why did the ANGUS explosion occur?” detailing what is in the background to the popularity and demand for Angus cattle.
Michael Winzar and Doug McGaughey from Natrakelp spoke on "how seaweed products can be used to improve weight gain and health of cattle as well as growth and nutritional quality of pasture." An innovative product for herd health, this was a most enlightening session.
Angus beef Pies were on the menu for lunch and proved very popular. The day was fine with a cool wind, but pleasant enough conditions for looking over the well behaved High Spa bulls on display.
High Spa enjoyed meeting some new faces to their stud this spring as well as repeat and regular clients.
