Pleasant summer sunshine across the state made it a good day for an outing to inspect the impressive bulls display at High Spa on Saturday February 3rd. The weather was a relieving change after a few days of high heat and humidity, although visitors could see by the green tinge across the pasture that some of that humidity had resulted in some welcome and much needed rain.
High Spa congratulates all the purchasers of bulls on the day. Bulls for maiden heifers were keenly sought after along with some bigger growth bulls for established cow herds. It was interesting to see that a number of buyers had picked their bull out “on paper” by examining background pedigree and ebv’s and were then more than happy with those bulls they had selected prior on physical examination. This is a testament to our mantra that a bull must “look” his figures and to the usefulness of estimated breeding values in general.
It was pleasing to welcome many new faces to our open day along with return clients. The numbers of interested visitors who came along was excellent. Those who visited keen to learn a bit about breeding Angus cattle and inspect our genetics used with a view to establish a new herd along the track are invited to keep in touch.
High Spa thanks Boehringer Ingelheim (Eclipse & Eprinex) for providing a “Lucky Gate Prize” of Eprinex to one visitor who walked through the gate on the day. (This year’s prize went to John McCarthy of Pastoria) Their support, along with that of Allflex is very much appreciated.
